Mangalore, Jan 27: Officials of Kerala state excise department detected a consignment of spirit valued at Rs 15 lac concealed beneath milk powder cartons from a truck on Sunday January 25. They have confiscated the truck and the spirit.
The truck was moving from Karnataka to Kerala. The officials, who conducted thorough checking of the truck after receiving a tip off at the Vamanjur check post, found that spirit cans were placed inside many of the cartons instead of milk powdr. 9,834 litres of spirit found in 298 cans was seized.
Truck driver decamped from the scene during the operation. Excise officials Binu, Girish, Rajesh, guards Raju and Kunhikrishnan took part in the operation.
