Bangalore, Jan 28: State president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat R K Nallur Prasad expressed confidence, that the 75th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan scheduled to start at Chitradurga on January 29, will be a unique experience, marked by the  wholehearted participation of the local people.

"Preparations are going on since the last two months. People of Chitradurga including the entire student community there, have been extending total support for the successful conduct of the Sammelan. The people have also been contributing by way of donations for the Sammelan depending upon their capacities," he explained.

The Parishat has taken care to book enough lodges to house the guests. The delegates will be accommodated in schools and colleges. Writers and resource persons will be housed in lodgings, he said. The responsibility for food has been taken over by Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Rajendra Sharana Swamiji of Chitradurga. The deputy commissioner of the district has also been working excellently for the success of the Sammelan. The auto drivers have, on their own, decided to charge only Rs 10 to passengers irrespective of the point of travel within the city, during the Sammelan period, he narrated.

"There will be 550 book stalls this time. The Parishat will release some books being published by it on that day," he revealed.

State chief minister B S Yeddyurappa will inaugurate the Sammelan in the afternoon on January 29.  Earlier in the day, district in-charge minister G Karunakar Reddy will hoist the national flag. Nallur Prasad will hoist the flag of the Parishat.

A procession of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari will be taken out from Kanaka Circle on Holalkere Road under the leadership of Sammelan president prof L Basavaraju at 10.30 that day, accompanied by hundreds of artistes, troupes and tableaux. Minister Goolihatti Shekhar will inaugurate the procession. After the inaugural function, cultural programmes will be staged from 7 pm onwards. Various seminars are slated to be held the next day.
