Bengaluru: Dr Sudha Murthy to chair state level women's Kannada literary conference

Bengaluru, Feb 13: The second women's state level Mahila Sahitya Sammelan (women's literary conference) will be held at Chikkamagaluru on March 2 and 3. Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, DR Sudha Maurthy, has been unanimously chosen to preside over this Sammelan. This was stated by president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Dr Manu Baligar.

He said that the said Sammelan will primarily give importance to women's issues, and sessions and debates at the Sammelan will be about the progress of women. On the first day, several sessions including 'women and movements', 'contribution of women to different fields' etc would be held. A number of stalwarts including Dr Dharanidevi Malagatti, Dr Y C Bhanumati, Radha Sundaresh, Dr Hema Pattanashetti, H N Arati, Savita Nagabhushan, and Deepa Hiregutti will participate. On the last day, interaction with the president of the Sammelan will be organized, he explained.

Good sessions and debates about women will be held during the Sammelan with the participation of popular women writers. Therefore, the Parishat is planning to bring out these matters by way of books, Baligar said. He also said that the Sammelan is planned to be a simple affair, with a budget of Rs 25 lac.

Baligar said that there are plans to hold Dalit Sahitya Sammelan at Kolar after the women's literary meet. He said that on this occasion, an integrated volume of dalit literature titled 'modern dalit literary volumes' would be released at this Sammelan.
