Udupi, Feb 14: A man reportedly cheated a woman of more than Rs 40 lac taking undue advantage of her trust.

Paduthonse, Hoode, Malpe resident Ranjani had a dream of starting an old age home as she was looking after patients at home and in hospital. She knew a person called Raghu R, resident of Shivamogga for the last twelve years. Ranjani had spoken about her desire to start an old age home to him.

Raghu had said that he has seen a land in Theerthahalli for the purpose which costs Rs 30 lac. He asked Ranjani to give Rs 15 lac and said that he will invest the remaining Rs 50 lac. Ranjani collected money from her savings, borrowed loan, pledged her gold and her relatives gold and transferred Rs 30,47,000 to the bank account of the suspect in Corporation Bank, Shivamogga branch and also gave Rs 10 lac in cash.

Ranjani in her private complaint to the court and Malpe police station stated that the suspect has cheated her of Rs 40,47,000 in all taking undue advantage of her trust and ignorance.
