Daijiworld Media Network - Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Feb 17: "BJP does not know anything other than terrorizing people. It sows the poisonous seeds of hatred between different religions and castes, incites youths to fight between themselves, ensuring in the end, that they get jailed. Those who are with the BJP are the real terrorists," said Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R V Deshpande. He was addressing a convention of Congress workers, held here on Monday February 16.

The convention was organized by Sullia Block Congress Committee. "Congress party has a history of sacrificing and laying down lives for the sake of the nation. What sacrifice has the BJP done so far for the country? Instead of reflecting on means to uplift the poor people, coolies and the peasants, they want to saffronize everything. As the end result, they are bringing Hindusim to disrepute," he charged.

Chairman of the Central Administrative Reforms Commission M Veerappa Moily, speaking on the occasion, said that the chief minister Yeddyurappa has earned doctorate for leading Karnataka to the top slot in the country as far as corruption is concerned. He satirically added that the chief minister must be conferred with another doctorate for his achievement in launching Operation Kamala and his inability to control rising prices. "Yeddyurappa, by redirecting heavy industrial projects that came to Karnataka, to Gujarat and Pune, has betrayed the people of the state," he charged.

Another Congress leader M G Hegde said that the knickers worn by the RSS cadres does not conform to Indian culture. MLC Jalaja Nayak, DK District Congress Committee president and MLA B Ramanat Rai, ex-MP Vinaykumar Sorake and others too spoke on the occasion.

Various leaders including KPCC secretary Badruddin, Manjunat Bhandary, party spokesperson Harikrishna Bantwal, Nityanand Mundody, Dr Raghu etc., were present at the dais.

Ex MLA and JD(S) leader Bakila Hukrappa joined the Congress on this occasion. Block Congress president Bharat Mundody welcomed. B Venkappa Gowda proposed vote of thanks.

Discordant notes

At the beginning, a crowd of workers raised slogans, demanding that erstwhile Congress leader Dhananjay Adpangaya should be brought back into the party fold. Some also shouted slogans, demanding to make Janardhan Poojary the Congress candidate for the Loksabha seat from Mangalore. Some peoples' representatives, workers etc., took the leaders to task for not inviting zilla panchayat member Chandrashekar onto the dais. Ramanat Rai had a hard time pacifying them.
