Udupi, Feb 20:
A lay Christian religious person was threatened by an unknown group here on Wednesday February 18 night.

Seventy one- year-old A Menezes, residing alone in a rented villa at Vasuki Nagar, Puttur village, Kallianpur near here, was threatened by an unknown group stalking him on Wednesday February 18 night.  A Menezes is a lay religious person spending his time in prayers and meditation at his house.  Many people of various castes and faiths use to visit his house from his neighbourhood and other localities. Some come seeking his prayers and others want to pray and meditate with him.

Sources informed that Menezes received a call on his mobile originating from 97432 87188, at 9.00 pm on Wednesday February 18. The caller threatened him and objected to his practice of entertaining people of various faiths at his villa.  Meanwhile, a group of unknown people also arrived near his villa in two vehicles at the same time and had conversations with his neighbourer.  All through the ordeal, Menezes did not turn up at the gates and instead, called his nephew who informed the town police.  The policemen arrived on the spot in Garuda police vehicle at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday, along with DySP Vishwanat Pandith.  No sooner the group stalking Menezes at his villa saw the police vehicle, they drove away without leaving a trace.

Town police have registered a case in this regard and have started efforts to locate the owner of the mobile subscriber from whom the threatening call had been received by Menezes.

This is ridiculous. That means a common man is not safe in his own home, and the government is quiet over these matters. Strict action should be taken on these miscreants, now that they have the proof of the mobile number. Are we living in a democratic country? Besides, all Christians should unite and fight for justice. Only cowards can think of attacking a 71 year old harmless man. God help us all, and keep us safe. It's really shocking to know about the on-going events in Mangalore and Udupi.
