Udupi, Mar 9: ‘Upadhyaya Samman’ the state-level awards were conferred on 28 veterans in recognition of their distinct contributions in various fields, at the programme held at Sri Krishna Math Rajangan here on Sunday March 8. It was organized by Upadhyaya Moodubelle Kala Pratisthan.
Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puttige Math conferred the awards to the veterans and graced the occasion.
State home minister Dr V S Acharya, speaking at the inaugural of the decennial celebrations of Upadhyaya Moodubelle Kala Pratisthan on Sunday, said that the state government has released Rs 168 crore for the artistes and various celebrations as also to promote Kannada and culture.
Vedamurti awards were conferred on B Krishnamurti Samaga Udupi, J L Narayan Tantri Parkala, Sarvottam Tantri Korangrapady, Karunakar Tantri Kalattoor, Bellirpady Ramanand Bhat, J Prasanna Acharya Nitte, N Vittal Bhat Nandalike, Dr H K Suresh Acharya Udupi, K S Narasimha Bhat Aroor and Chempi Ramachandra Anant Bhat.
Honorary awards were presented to Dr Na D’Souza Sagar, Dr Mahalingeshwar Rao Udupi, Dr Bhaskaranand Kumar Manipal, Dr Na Damodar Shetty Mangalore, Ambatanaya Mudrady, P S Puninchittaya Kasargod, A V Madhavan Puduval, Chandranat Acharya Bangalore, B K Boliyar Puttur and Pratibha M L Samaga.
Special awards were presented to Murali Kadekar Udupi, Purushottam Adve Udupi, N S Pattar Mangalore, Kodangal Vasudev Bhat, Lata Tantri Kutyar, Anu Pavanje Mumbai, Janardhan Kodavoor Udupi and Prahlad Acharya.
The programme was presided over by the cetral Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat Dakshina Kannada district president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura was the chief guest of the occasion.
A live demonstration of artistic skills of P S Puninchittaya Kasargod was also held on this occasion.
Pratisthan honorary president Krishnamurti Bhat, Vasudev Holla and Jayalaxmi Bhat were present at the dais.
Pratistjan president Upadhyaya Moodubelle welcomed the gathering while secretary Madhav Bhat Sondoor proposed vote of thanks.
Adve Ravindra Poojary compered the programme.
