Karkala, Mar 11: In an interesting development, the protesting villagers of Miyar near here, made the village accountant to swear by placing his palm on the head of one of them, to work honestly to redress the grievances of the beneficiaries under various government schemes. The members were agitating against the alleged corruptive practices of the village accountant on Monday March 9.

The people of Karolgudde in the village had been issued 'above poverty line (APL)' ration cards in the past. The villagers were issued the APL cards again even after they filed review application. The villagers complained that the village accountant who committed mistake during survey work, demanded bribe to set right the mistake.

The women barged into the office of the village accountant on Monday, dragged him out of the office and locked the office up. They then severely reprimanded him for his lapses. The villagers demanded for his immediate transfer. Later, they relented and demanded that he should set right the mistakes.
