An international seminar on Dr Ferdinand Kittel will be held from Thursday March 12 to Saturday March 14, at Karnataka Theosophical College Sahodaya Auditorium, Balmatta,

It is being jointly organized by Karnataka Theosophical Research Institute and Sahitya Academy, New Delhi.
 
The seminar will be inaugurated by Hampi Kannada University retired vice-chancellor Dr M M Kalaburgi at 3.00 pm on Thursday.
 
The programme will be presided over by well-known researcher Nadoja Dr Srinivas Havanoor.  Agrahara Krishnamurti, secretary, Shitya Academy, New Delhi, will be the chief guest on the occasion.  Dr J S Sadanand of Seramoor University, West Bengal, will release a book on Dr Kittel. 
 
Retired professor and Pampa award winner Dr Venkatachala Shastry will deliver a lecture on Kittel’s extraordinary compositions and notes at 5.30 pm on Thursday and a documentary on Dr Ferdinand Kittel produced by Bharatiya Basha Samstan, Mysore, will be screened at 6.45 pm on the same day.
 
Mangalore University retired professor Dr B Surendra Rao will deliver a lecture on ‘Kittel: Social, Cultural Concern’, from 9.00 am to 10.00 am on Friday March 13.
 
The first seminar on Kittel’s dictionary and dictionaries of the same period will be held from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm on Friday.
 
It will be presided over by Kannur University retired professor Dr Srikrishna Bhat, Kasargod.
 
Dr Padmanabha Kekunnaya, Udupi (Tulu dictionary), Dr Harikrishna Bharanya, Madurai (Tamil dictionary), Dr G S Mohan, Bangalore (Telugu), Dr Scaria Zakaria Karikkampalli (Malayalam dictionary), and Dr G N Upadhya, Mumbai (Marathi dictionary), will present their papers, moderated by Dr Na Da Shetty, Mangalore.
 
The second seminar on ‘Kittel: Lexiconist and Grammar Expert’, will be presided over by Dharwad Dr R C Hiremat Study Centre director Dr H M Maheshwar from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm on Friday.
 
Dr Krishna Parameshwar Bhat, Bangalore, will present a paper on Kittel: Kannada Grammar Expert’ while Dr S L Srinivasmurti will present a paper on ‘Kittel and Legal Expert B L Rice’ and Dr H M Maheshwarayya, Dharwad, will present a paper on ‘Kittel’s Dictionary and its Applicability’.  Dr Pandurang Babu, Hampi, and Dr Padekal Vishnu Bhat, Udupi, will moderate.
 
A documentary on contributions of western missionaries to Kannada, produced by Bharatiya Basha Samsthan, Mysore, will be screened at 6.45 pm on Thursday.
 
The third seminar on ‘Kittel: Religious literature and compiling of scriptures, will be presided over by proposed Bangalore Sanskrit University special officer Prof Malleshpuram G Venkatesh from 9.00 am to 10.30 am on Saturday March 14.
 
Dr Ratnakar Sadanand, Mangalore, will present a paper on ‘Kittel: Religious Literature in the Context of Post Colonialism’ and Dr S S Angady, Hampi, will present a paper on ‘Kittel: Composer of Scriptures’, while Dr Satyanarayan Mallipattana, Mangalore, and Dr H M Watson, Mangalore, will moderate.
 
The fourth seminar on ‘Kittel: Textbooks, Composer of Literary History’, will be presided over by Hampi Kannada University professor Dr Karim Gowda Beechinahalli from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm on Saturday March 14.
 
Dr K M Mathew, Bangalore, will present a paper on Kittel’s textbooks and Dr N S Taranath, Mysore, will present a paper on ‘Kittel: History of Kannada Literature’
moderated by Dr Mahabaleshwar Rao, Udupi.
 
At the fifth seminar from 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm on Saturday, Basel Mission’s retired chief librarian Dr Paul Jenkins will present a paper on ‘Kittel: Treasure Trove of Basel Mission’s Library’ and Jennifer Jenkins of Basel Mission will present Pauline Kittel’s letters while Dr Harinita of Mangalagangotri and Dr Denis Fernandes Mangalore will moderate.
 
The valedictory address will be delivered by Bangalore University Professor Dr Basavaraj Kalgudi at 4.30 pm on Saturday.
