Madikeri, Mar 12: Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Mutalik is scheduled to appear in Virajpet court on Thursday March 12, in connection with the hearing of a case of delivering provocative speech he is facing. The additional court in Virajpet will be hearing the case against him.

Gonikoppal policemen had registered a case against Mutalik on December 15, 2003, alleging that he had delivered communally-provocative speech at the Viraj Hindu Samjotsav programme held at Gonikoppal college ground then. He faces charges under section 153 A of Indian Penal Code. Mutalik was then identified with Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Bajrang Dal and later became the founder president of Sri Rama Sene. The policemen had not made serious efforts to nab him so far.

After Mutalik was arrested in the backdrop of the adverse publicity the government received in the national and international-level due to the pub attack incident in Mangalore, the district policemen had executed a body warrant against him and brought him to the Virajpet additional court on February 2. The judge had released Mutalik on bail, asking him to be present in the court on March 12.

The court has in the meantime, issued summons to 19 persons including policemen and other witnesses, to be present in the court today.
