Mangalore: Rains Bring Relief to Citizens of Twin Districts

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 13: All the taluks of both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts received good rain fall on the nights of Wednesday March 11 and Thursday March 12. In most of the places, the rain fall was good, but some areas received only a drizzle.

Due to the rains, five vehicles skidded off the national highway near Suratkal, injuring three persons travelling on motor cycles. Near Hosabettu, Suratkal, two cars skidded and veered away from the road. The slippery highway also resulted in tyres of a truck losing their grip on the road, moving off its path and injuring Tangappa, Satish and Rashid from Jokatte, who were travelling in two motor cycles. They were provided treatment in a Suratkal hospital, and a case was filed with Suratkal police station.

Within the city too, some areas got copious rains, with some others receiving only light showers. Moodbidri got only a drizzle while villages located around the town received good rain.  Bajpe and Mulky got good rains but Beltangady had heavy rainfall coupled with thunder and lightning. The untimely rains caused losses to some agriculturists who had laid out their arecanut crops for drying.  Electricity supply was disrupted in several villages due to the rain. Subrahmanya got heavy rain fall on the night of Wednesday.

The citizens, while feeling happy about the temporary respite the rain has brought, are worried that the temperature would soar if the rainfall does not occur again for some days.  In Udupi district, minor incidents like branches of trees falling on electric cables happened, and no serious damage was reported. The power supply so disrupted was restored in a few hours by Mescom.
