Mangaluru: Pandeshwar fire station - advanced water bowser infuses additional power

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 14: The fire brigade at Pandeshwar here, which already has a number of emergency vehicles at is disposal, now has got a well-equipped advanced water bowser. This modern tanker helps the department to instantly respond in case of incidents of fire tragedy related to oil and gas leakage.

This high quality bowser can spray water and foam together on fire. The vehicle is equipped with capacity to carry 4,500 litres of water and 600 litres of foam together. When water mixed with foam is sprayed on fire caused by oil or gas, the fire can be controlled easily.

Although there was a system of spraying foam in the past here, a can of foam had to be sprayed through pump with water, and this was grossly insufficient for major fires. The new equipment helps to save effort and time of the staff besides reducing risks. District fire officer, Shekhar, says that even in complicated cases, fire can be doused easily with the help of water bowser.

The city was badly in need of this equipment as there are several oil processing units here and gas tankers; petrol and diesel tanks often trip and fall on the highways, particularly during the rainy season. District chief officer of the fire brigade, T N Shivashankar, also concurs that the water bowser backed by modern technology helps to easily extinguishes flames caused by oil, gas etc.
