Shiv Sena advises NDA against 'Nationalism Of Convenience'

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 16: The Shiv Sena on Tuesday asked the NDA government not to behave in a way that would fuel allegations that it was trying to wage a war to influence poll results. It stated in its mouthpiece 'Saamana' editorial that riots and terror attacks should not be used for 'political gains' and also warned that targeting students from Kashmir over such incidents could spell more trouble for the government.

Since the remark came a day after the BJP and the Shiv Sena announced a seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections, it has been received widely on a skeptical note.

The party, led by Uddhav Thackeray said, "Sometime back there were political allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could wage a small-scale war to win elections. The rulers should not behave in a way that these allegations gather strength." Along with this it also took a dig at certain lawmakers for their controversial comments made on India-Pakistan relations and in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror strike.

"Until yesterday, the same person was chief minister with support of the BJP. Even her anti-national mindset is old. Yet, the BJP got friendly with them while we kept opposing their alliance," it said.

As per PTI report, the Shiv Sena went on to say that "(Narendra) Modi has spoken with grit - the way an Indian prime minister should have spoken. He has spoken about how three generations have been destroyed under Abdullah and Mufti's regimes."

"PM Modi has also spoken about displacement of Kashmiri Pandits. However their ghar wapsi (return to their homes) could not happen in the last five years," the Sena said.
