Mangaluru, Apr 19: JCI Ganeshpura in association with SVEEP Committee of Mangalore conducted Voter Awareness programmes at Sharada Bhajana Mandir, Mangalapete and Samudaya Bhavana community hall, Chelairu.

Vishwanath, panchayat development officer of Bala panchayat was the resource person for the programme, which was aimed at sensitizing the public regarding the election procedures. Addressing the gathering he said, “Voting is celebrated like a festival in India. Those who do not participate in it will lose their right to ask questions about democracy too.” He enlightened the audience regarding the way our democracy has progressed and gave detailed explanations regarding voting with the help of EVMs.

Presiding over the function, Udaya Kumar, president of JCI Ganeshpura observed that India is the world’s largest democracy and many foreigners are keen to understand about our country’s electoral traditions. “Every Indian should vote compulsorily,” he urged.

Subsequently panchayat development officer of Bala panchayat Vishwanath administered a pledge to vote. Arun Kumar welcomed the gathering. Jaycees Vanitha Anchan, Chethan B Amin, Dr Sampath Kumar, Smitha Holla, Lakshmish Anchan, Shreesha Karmaran, Sharath Kumar, Venugopal, Bharathi Shreesha Karmaran, Priya, Sanna Maaresh, members of Dharmasthala self help group and local residents were present. Shashi Kumar rendered the vote of thanks.
