Udupi: Lok Sabha Candidate: Congress leaves People Guessing

Daijiworld Media Network -  Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Mar 30: The Congress party has left the people of Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency guessing about its prospective candidate from here, as it failed to announce the name of the candidate even on Sunday. Many names are being coined by various quarters, without any solid evidence. The name of D K Taradevi, which some sources claimed, had emerged as the front runner for bagging the party ticket from the constituency, also has slinked to the oblivion.

Party sources say, behind-the-scenes efforts by some candidates are on at New Delhi, to get the backing of the national leadership. While some sources claim that Taradevi has been assured of the candidature, some others refute this claim by informing that  Daya Nayak and B L Shankar have been continuing with their efforts to get the high command nod. There have also been rumours that Jayprakash Hegde, who was thought to have become disinterested to fight the election after he was asked to foot the election expenditure on his own, is still interested to have a go at it.

Vinay Kumar Sorake continues to be in Delhi. Sorake, who had earlier been insistent on being fielded from Mangalore, is learnt to have opted to contest from Udupi instead. However, he is too late in shifting his choice to fight the election from here, it is being felt.

In Karwar, sons of Margaret Alva and R V Deshpande are reportedly continuing with their last-minute efforts to clinch the deal in their favour.
