Udupi, Mar 30:
Manipal University's Annual five-day student fest 'Utsav' recently concluded at Manipal. With a tagline ' a Reason to Celebrate', Utsav marked its decennial year by turning Manipal into a melting pot of cultures.

More than 9000 on-campus students from more than 30 different countries studying at 22 constituent colleges which include KMC and MIT, India's oldest private medical and engineering colleges took part in what University officials termed as a 'Cultural Extravaganza'.

The team from KMC Manipal emerged as the overall winners. They were followed by MCODS Manipal and KMC Mangalore. The cultural parade and the fashion show attracted huge crowds. This year apart from the Mangalore, Manipal and Bangalore campuses of the Manipal Education Group, the Nepal campus participated. Next year teams from Dubai and Sikkim campuses are expected to participate.

"A reason to celebrate" ....What a apt title..... Yes in our young age we hardly used to celebrate Birthday's.... Definitely everybody used to celebrate death day's..... What is the use if we forget to celebrate days during our lifetime and after our death somebody will celebrate our death (only if you have kept lots of money for them !!!????)....The days like mothers day, fathers day, teachers day, workers day were there may be...except for a holiday we did not the significance of the day. At least I am happy that my daughter is in this era to celebrate all these days...!?? Which I enjoy....These BJP and Rama sena will never understand what does that enjoyment means, some guy's who were deprived of modern day enjoyments during their young age are trying to impose Hindutva and what is called as Indian culture on everybody..... Common guy's if you have not enjoyed it is your fate, do not deprive your children from that.....And about sex and marriage, even in olden days the so called Jamindaar's had a second wife (unofficial) and they even had children from the that second wife...!!!!??? Be happy atleast that sort of illegal relation is not possible nowadays....!!!!!????? Enjoy my dear students to the core and prove these fundamentalists wrong !!!???

Being a former Manipal alumnus it was good to see/ know that UTSAV continues. However the sceptic/ cynic in me wonders what prevented the new self-appointed Moral Brigade from opposing/ protesting the 'Un-Indian Fashion Show' - prhaps the politicians  have offsprings in the institute and they are participating in the said fashion show . Hope I am wrong.

"Melting pot of cultures" will obviously bring multitudes of other advantages including diversity of Educational and Economical benefits to Manipal. I also understand that Manipal is now blessed with a newly organized Toastmasters International Club. It will be our delight and honour to visit Manipal on our next trip to India. Manipal will be on the world map soon. Jai Hind.
