Mangalore, Mar 31:
The district unit of the Dalit Sangarsha Samithi (Ambedkarite) staged a ‘dharna’ protesting against the United Pogressive Alliance (UPA) and the state government’s destructive initiatives of social justice and anti-people policies, in front of the District Office here on Monday March 30.

Demonstrators alleged that the union government and state BJP government have deprived the Dalit community by not implementing development programmes for them. The BJP government is not ready to waive Rs 235 crore in loans of schedules from the Ambedkar Abhivruddi Nigama.

Protestors also demanded that Gulbarga University should be renamed after Babasaheb Ambedkar. They said that ration cards must be distributed and direct loans be provided to Dalits for self-employment.

DSS also demanded nationalization of bus routes in order to make it convenient for the poor people. They submitted a memorandum to the governor through the deputy commissioner.

DSS leaders Rohithaksha K, S P Anand, Mahalinga K, S Ramesh Kotyan, Chandu L, and Rohith Ullal were present.
