Bantwal, Mar 31: In a strange incident, a youth named Sadiq (21), son of Abbas from Kodangayi village hit the thigh of his friend Naushad (18), son of Mohammed Kunhi from the same village with a wooden spike, causing fracture of the thigh bone, on Monday March 30 afternoon.

Reportedly, Sadiq, a driver by profession, approached Naushad, a coolie, who was sitting in front of a shop in his village, and patted his thigh in a friendly gesture. Naushad, who was suffering from thigh pain due to an injury sustained at a cricket match two days back, asked his friend not to do so. Angered at this response, Sadiq is said to have hit his thigh again harder and then beat Naushad with a wooden spike with full force, causing the fracture.

Naushad, who fainted then, was admitted to the Vittal community hospital by the local people. The policemen have since arrested the accused, who they said, was trying to flee.
