Kundapur, Apr 1: Inaugurating the  lamp-lighting ceremony at the annual day-cum-graduation day celebration at Canara College of Nursing and Nightingale School of Nursing Kundapur being  run by Bailur Educational Trust,  Dr  S  Ramananda Shetty,  vice-chancellor Rajeev Gandhi University of Health Sciences said, it was the legendary Florence Nightingale, who for the first time, showed to the world that the patients on the verge of death could see a ray of hope only with the dedicated, compassionate services of those who genuinely care for them. The nursing maidens, showing exemplary confidence and discipline inspired by the virtues displayed by that great missionary, have always kept the welfare of patients before self. The outgoing students of Canara Nursing College should not deviate from the noble path shown by Nightingale, more popularly known as the Lady with the Lamp, he advised.

The vice-chancellor also had a few words of praise for the Trust. The Canara Nursing College is one of the few Colleges in the state, which is located in the rural set up, equipped with a library, laboratory and computers as a result of which, most of the students are from outside the state, he noted. He also wished that the college would soon be conferred with the autonomous status, which has to be granted by the state authorities.

'Abinava Bhargava' Dr Santhoshji presided over the function. Trustees Udaya Kumar Shetty, Vinay Kumar Shetty and Shantharam Hegde were present on the occasion. Managing director of the college S Jayakara Shetty welcomed the gathering. Anita C Rao, principal of Canara Nursing College and Prathibha Lydia Braggs, principal of Nightingale School of Nursing, read out the annual reports. Administrator Balakrishna Shetty introduced the chief guest. Lecturer Vijayalakshmi proposed the vote of thanks.
