Mangalore, Apr 2:
People who had been rendered homeless after their houses were bulldozed by City Corporation on April 1, staged protest in front of the MCC building here on Thursday April 2.

Addressing the demonstrators corporator Mariamma Thomas condemned the act and said that houses were bulldozed all of a sudden without giving any prior notice to the residents. "Corporation could have taken up other development works such as construction of road and providing adequate water instead of destroying houses belonging to poor people. Corporation should give compensation and title deeds to the victims," she urged.

The authorities have also bulldozed a terrace house which has ration card, water connection and electricity connection. They should have conducted a proper investigation on this before evicting the house, she said.

Imthiyaz, vice-president, DYFI said that Corporation officials are mute spectators regarding some multi-storied buildings in the city which have license to build only limited floors. But on the other hand they want to become ‘hero’ by bulldozing small houses of poor. DYFI leaders Sunil Kumar Bajal, Deviprasad Shetty also addressed the protestors.

A memorandum was also submitted to the commissioner Shameer Shukla. He said that he has powers to raze illegal settlements and establishments without prior notice. Constructing a building in government land without permission is clearly a violation of norms.

Protestors shouted slogans against the commissioner and city corporation. Some of the victims also expressed their woes.

Hey Stany, stop emotional blackmail bringing ladies and homelss issue. Law is for all. There should not be any tresspass. What would you do if someone build a house in your property and later MCC demolish that? Would you feel pity on them or trying to get rid of them from your property! ANDHA KANNON dear.. law is same for all!

MCC is absolutely right. No tears, pity etc. etc. is above law. These people and their generations never had the will to work hard and improve. POVERTY IS LACK OF WILL AND HARD WORK. Coupled with corrupt governance, over the years, politicians have only exploited them. Each have large families and not a trace of family planning. Imagine, what justice a labourer/ daily wager can do to his children if he has 8 to 10 mouths to feed. Certainly, children of a lesser god and sadly ,we are mute spectators. The problem is so enormous that hardly there is a short term solution. China is an example of success. We can certainly pool our minds and improve their lives, not with sops and free bees but education health and gainful employment.

Government and authorities ae our elected representatives. Now BJP is in rule. Is this the way they run the Civilian affairs ? where is the protection ? who is responsible the tears of these homeless people, spceially Young Ladies, Childrens. If shelter less people take shelter under the sky, miscretns definitely take advantage and creat un wanted lawless deeds of their wish. Authorities must take immediate note of this and should provide alternative shelter to these homeless people.

Laws are made for the people so one should obey it or bear the consequence. We pity for the homeless but we sweat and work hard to make our houses but some are just constructing houses on govt sites. Absolutely correct what MCC did. No sympathy! Wake up guys, one should realise before committing crime! Hey corporator stay away, your job is to follow the laws not to protect those who are breaking the laws. Did we elect you for this??

As I had mentioned in my earlier comments one should watch Malyalam movie called Vaishali casted 25 yrs back. Once the politicians get the vote they don't care for the downtrodden. Now any religious organisation gives any helping hand they will be branded doing coversion. Tell us how to give them at least a glass of water to this needy, helpless poor and downtrodden families?

Constructing a building in government land without permission is clearly a violation of norms. Yes we agree, but there is something called sympathy for the homeless 'Below Poverty Line' people who don’t have anything above their head. MCC should have involved the NGOs & social works to find a way out to give them an alternative temporary shelter at some MUDA land. At this juncture where these poor women & their children will go? All the political parties must sit together & find a solution to the very poor homeless citizens of our district.

We are enjoying the movie Slum Dog Millionaire and showing our patriotsom.Poor people should be given alternative arrangement by the corporation without effecting their daily bread and children's school. Instead of joinnig various sanghas, vedikes distroying peace in society, and celbrating Smajotsava, Ramotsava, we need real volunteers to help the downtrodden and poor.
