Udupi: Well Caves in - Man Buried Alive

Udupi, Apr 20: A worker from Bijapur, who was digging a well near the seashore in Mattu in Kote village near Katpady, was buried alive on Sunday April 19, after a huge mound of earth caved in upon him.

Hanumant (45), a native of Bijapur district, was the unfortunate victim involved with the accident. He was digging a well for a woman named Meenakshi. He was at a depth of about 14 feet, when the loose soil came crashing upon him, resulting in his death due to asphyxiation.

His body was later dug out with the help of the people and fire brigade personnel. A case has been registered at Kaup police station.
