Karkala, Apr 20: A programme titled 'Nudinamana,' a monthly programme of literature and cultural enrichment, was held at Kannada Bhavan Kantavar near here on Sunday April 19. The event was organized by Kantavara Kannada Sangha.

Delivering a special lecture  on the books,  ‘Iggappa Hegadeya Vivaha' and 'Arya Anarya' authored by Karkee Venkatramana Shastry, V G Nayak, veteran litterateur said that Shastry had shown humanist concerns as far back as 150 years ago, thereby showing the right path for the future writers.  The work is marriage-centric and contains details of the cruelty, the deceptive ways of the middlemen, acceptance of age difference between the bride and the groom depending on the financial clout of the groom and the ulterior means employed by astrologers.  In his 'Arya Anarya' novel too, Shastry pointed out the inhuman acts prevalent among the lower castes, Nayak explained. Nayak also hailed Shastry as a fearless journalist who wrote without any reservations about the British.

Kantavara Bahubali Jain briefed the contents of the book written on Amrita Someshwar, senior writer and scholar of folk arts.

Dr N Mogasale, Kannada Association working president and C K Padival, cultural scholar, felicitated V G Nayak on the occasion.

Sanoor Ramachandra Achar rendered Kannada devotional songs. Suresh Shetty, programme convener compered the programme.
