Puttur, Apr 21: Addressing a press conference held here on Monday April 20, Dakshina Kannada district BJP Minority Morcha president Franklin Monteiro asked Congress Party zilla panchayat member K K Shahul Hamid to apologize to the Muslim women, for his derogatory comment about them. Hamid, reacting to the Muslim pledging allegiance to the BJP had said, that the burkha-clad women claimed to be the Muslim women set to join the BJP were in fact, clean-shaven men.
Monteiro questioned the discreet silence being observed by Muslim organizations, secular forces and intellects about the comment made by the zilla panchayat member of the Congress Party which claims to be a secular party. "Would you have remained silent if the same comments had come from either Jagadish Karant of Hindu Jagran Vedike or Mahendra Kumar of Bajrang Dal? Would this intelligentsia-on-contract have not raised a global hue and cry on this issue if the person who made the comment belonged to the BJP?, he questioned.
He also asked the religious minorities not to lend an ear to scandalous campaigns against the BJP and to vote for the BJP candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Taluk panchayat president Chanila Timmappa Shetty, municipal president Rajesh Bannur, APMC director Guruvappa and town BJP general secretary Kishore Nellikatte were present at the press conference.
