Chitradurga, Apr 21: District deputy commissioner (DC) and election officer Amlan Aditya Biswas has accused the local JD (S) MLA S K Basavarajan of creating hurdles in his impartial discharge of duties.

He complained in a press conference convened here on Monday April 20 that the MLA has been leveling unfounded allegations against him, in order to instill a sense of fear in him. Biswas claimed, he has been working impartially.

"By raising the topic of the caste of the legal counsellor of the municipality in a press conference held on Sunday, the MLA has tried to divide castes. He has twisted the concept of minorities. Therefore, a complaint has been filed with the Election Commission against the MLA and others who were present at the press conference," he said. The DC also said MLA S K Basavarajan has leveled allegations against him because of personal animosity. "All the allegations are totally baseless. I have never violated code of conduct. The MLA is not aware of the code," he felt.

Defending his action in appointing legal counsellor for the municipality, Biswas said it was only an administrative change that does not tantamount to government or quasi-government appointment. The municipality does not pay him any salary. The municipality pays him a prescribed fee only when he presents arguments on behalf of the municipality. The changes had to be affected as the municipality faced several reverses in the past, he revealed, arguing that there is no necessity to take the municipal council into confidence before making this appointment.

He added, that the JD (S) Lok Sabha candidate M Ratnakar has said, that the allegations made by Basavarajan were borne out of his personal opinions alone.
