Mangalore: Safiya Murder - Vigilance Inquiry Begins

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 22: The vigilance inquiry against the police officials facing the charges of helping the main accused K C Hamza, who is facing charges of killing teenaged housemaid Safiya in Goa, has begun.

In this connection, the office bearers of the action committee that led a struggle for getting justice for Safiya were summoned to get information. During interrogation in the murder case, main accused had revealed that several policemen including some highly placed ones had been bribed to close the case. A past district superintendent of police, two deputy superintendents, an assistant sub-inspector of police in Adoor police station who is cited as the fifth accused in the case, allegedly received kickbacks from the main accused, as per his own statements.

It may be recalled, that contractor Hamza, who had taken 14 year-old Safiya to work at his house in Goa, had later killed her and buried her body near a vented dam. He had tried to conceal his crime, with the connivance of police officials, and tried to make it look as if the girl had gone missing after coming back to Kasargod with him.
