Kundapur, Apr 22: Unidentified robbers entered Bijoor branch of Kambadakone Farmers Service Cooperative Bank near here between 4 am and 5.30 am on Wednesday April 22 and took away about 14 kgs of gold ornaments pledged by customers for loans raised by them, besides cash amounting to Rs 1.8 lac. The value of the gold ornaments so robbed is put at around Rs 1.5 crore.

The robbers reportedly came in a vehicle, bringing with them equipments and machines required to break open the shutters and safe locker. At first, they broke open the front shutters and jammed the siren box. Then they broke open the safe locker of the bank by using machines and other equipments, before taking away gold ornaments and cash stashed inside.

Bank president Prakashchandra Shetty said that there were four to five robbers and that they had come in a vehicle. He claimed that the people staying nearby heard some sounds but did not complain as they apprehended danger to their lives.

Udupi district superintendent of police Praveen and other officers of the department have visited the spot and undertaken investigations. The fact that the robbers worked a plan out and had come properly equipped for the robbery makes one to believe that they knew the prevailaing conditions well.
