Mangalore: New Cardio Diagnostic System ‘Cath Lab’ Comes to KMC

The new GE Innova 2100 IQ Cath Lab, which allows cardiologists to diagnose heart disease with high quality images at less radiation and contrast media, was inaugurated at the Manipal Heart Institute, Kasturba Medical College here on Wednesday April 22.
 
Briefing about the new machine, Dr Padmanabha Kamath said that the new Cath Lab system in Manipal Heart Institute is the world’s most advanced cardiovascular imaging system utilizing an all-digital flat panel detector to produce extremely detailed images of the heart.

The system’s 20 cm sq detector allows visualizing the entire heart in a single view, which gives interventional radiologists and cardiologists a significant advantage over existing technology in performing a wide range of image-guided treatments.
 
He informed that the new system is capable of imaging the finest vessels and anatomy of the heart during placement of interventional devices.

The chief guest, superintendent of police Dr Subramanyeshwara Rao said that he would conduct more interaction programmes between police personnel and doctors in the upcoming days.
 
Prof H S Ballal, pro-chancellor, Manipal University, presided over the function. Dr Sunil Deshpande, Dr Yusuf Kumble, and Dr G Rajgopal were also present.
