Udupi, Apr 24:
“The financial package announced for the relief of coffee planters during the NDA’s reign has not reached the deserving coffee planters in Malnad region. Congress will support the ongoing struggle of local farmers to get irrigation benefits on a priority basis from the Bhadra Upper Canal Project.  A route parallel to Shiradi Ghat will be built at the earliest.  Public opinion will be gathered on four lane conversion of National Highway (NH) 17 from Suratkal to Byndoor”, said Udupi–Chikmagalur Lok Sabha Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde.

Addressing media persons at the press meet held at the Congress party office here on Thursday April 23, he said that the BJP-led state administration had not rejuvenated the distressed Bramavar Sugar Factory, though the state administration has already poured crores of rupees into other ailing industries across the state.

Hedge alleged that the proposed mono rail project in the coastal district and the third phase of Malpe fisheries port still remain on paper without allocating any funds being allocated for it.

He underlined the fact that the de-silting of shipping channels in the second phase at Mangalore, Karwar, Malpe, and Gangolli ports were undertaken during his tenure as minister of ports and fisheries.

“Moreover, Tebma Shipyard was awarded the contract to develop the slipway at Malpe fisheries port and he would be ready to reply to allegations of BJP local leaders on a common platform.  It’s also significant that a veteran BJP local leader is also involved in Tebma Shipyard”, said Hegde.

M P Manorama Madwaraj, local Congress leaders Govindraj Hegde, Narasimhamurti, Divakar Kunder, and Dinesh Putran were present at the press meet.
