Udupi: MLA Raghupati Bhat Predicts DVS Victory with Huge Margin

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (RD/SP)

Udupi, Apr 24:
“Lok Sabha BJP candidate D V Sadanand Gowda will in all probability, win with a margin of over one lac votes over his Congress rival, thus sending the Congress on a tailspin.  Congress candidate Jayaprakash (JP) Hegde has been making false statements since he has been sensing his own imminent defeat, owing to lack of enthusiasm among the grass root level activists of the Congress Party in undertaking aggressive campaigning across this vast constituency,” asserted MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Addressing the media persons in the afternoon on Thursday April 23, at the district BJP office here, Bhat said it was Jayaprakash Hegde, who as the ports and fisheries minister during 1998, granted permission for the Tebma Shipyard to set up their ship building facility on the slip way at Malpe fisheries port.  Hence, Hegde was directly responsible for the woes the fishermen of Malpe have been going through due to this project, since the tender process began in this regard during 1999.  The foundation stone for this facility was laid by the then ports and fisheries minister Vasant V Salian in the cabinet of S M Krishna during 2001, MLA Bhat explained.

“It was during his term in the year 2004 that an agreement was signed by the Tebma officials and the government, making provision for developing the facility on a lease of 15 years without provision of its renewal.  Tebma was to lay its own access road and was barred from using the thorough road of the port authority. The BJP-led state government has strived for solving the fishermen’s issues, by developing the fisheries road, building break water walls, de-silting shipping channels in ports, providing housing for needy fishermen and taking up many other community welfare activities.  It was only during the term of Jayaprakash Hegde as minister that boulders were dumped at sea and nothing else was done for the fishermen, MLA Bhat alleged.

State home minister and district in charge minister Dr V S Acharya released a hand book of development of the district during the reign of BJP state administration in its 10-month rule.

Dr V S Acharya, Urban Development Authority chairman Sudhakar Shetty, municipal councillor Dinakar Shetty, BJP yuva morcha president Mahesh Thakoor, Raghavendra Kini, Katpady Shankar Poojary and others were present at the press meet.
