Udupi, Apr 24: Congress Party candidate from Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency K Jayaprakash Hegde alleged that the BJP doled out lofty promises at the time of election, just to rise to power and implemented none of its promises after grabbing power. He was addressing an electioneering meeting held in Malpe on Thursday April 23.

"The promise of the BJP to provide rice to the poor at Rs 2 a kg has remained unfulfilled. Ration cards are yet to be issued to the people. Earlier, ration card holders used to get 28 kgs of rice every month, which has been reduced to just four kgs now. Issuance of kerosene too has gone down from 10 litres to three litres a month per ration card. After claiming to provide power to farmers free of cost, the government is aiming at recovering the past dues of the farmers. The BJP legislators and ministers are concentrating on improving their own lots instead of those of people. Discussions about the problems of the people do not get any importance in the legislative assembly now," he charged.

Hegde promised to be present in almost all the days of the Lok Sabha sessions to raise the problems of the people and the state and asked people to vote for him.

Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj in his address accused the BJP of indulging in malicious propaganda. He said, terrorism has affected every country, and India is not an exception. The Congress government under the leadership of Manmohan Singh has made Pakistan the accused, in its efforts to end this problem, he explained.

Ex-MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, Bramhavar Block Congress president Udaychandra Shetty, zilla panchayat member Janardhan Thonse, taluk panchayat member Veronica Carnelio and several others were present.
