Udupi, Apr 25: Rotary Shankarapura celebrated their silver jubilee celebrations at Rotary Centenary Bhavan, Shankarapura, near here recently.
District governor K Krishna Shetty inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, Krishna Shetty dwelt on the activities of the Club for the past 25 years, especially its service for the mentally challenged since the past five years and said that Rotary Shankarapura is at the top among clubs in the District because of this activity.
Manipal Academy of General Education administrative officer Dr H Shantaram released ' Rajatha Sourabha', club souvenir, to commemorate its silver jubilee. Dr Shantharam explained the gathering as to how rural people bloom when an institution like Rotary International spreads its wings to support the backward rural populace and how it attracts the people's goodwill. He stated that Shankarapura Rotary Club sponsored by Rotary Shirva, 25 years ago, has stood the test of time and proven to be an efficient and affective international organization working in a rural atmosphere with service of International standards.
Former district governors Dr K Ravi Appaji, Lakshminarayan and Jnana Vasantha Shetty also spoke at the occasion and honoured distinguished Rotarians, donors and office bearers.
Rotary Shirva former president P Vithal Shenoy pondered over those moments when there was a suggestion to start a new Rotary Club in Shankarapura which posed a threat to the very existence of Rotary Club at Shirva. He said that though Rotary Shankarapura was sponsored by Rotary Shirva, the former has gone ahead in its sphere of activities and excelled in many ways.
Dr Edward Lobo presided over the programme.
A LCD show on the activities of Rotary Shankarapura was presented by Francis D’Sa at the same occasion.
Edward Mendonca, Vincent Saldanha, John Lobo, U Nandana Kumar and M G Nagendra introduced the guests.
Rotary Shankarapura founder B P Janardbhan also spoke at the occasion.
Dr Edward Lobo welcomed the gathering. Secretary R V Prabhu proposed vote of thanks. N Anantharama Bhat and K Krishnamurti Rao compered the programme.
The celebrations were followed by cultural programmes by Inner Wheel members, Interact Club Members.
Initially, the guests were accorded a traditional Indian welcome.
