Mangalore: Five Crorepatis in Election Fray in Twin Constituencies

Mangalore, Apr 25: Giving details about the candidates fighting the coming Lok Sabha election from Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi-Chikmagalur constituencies, National Election Watch organization at a press conference held here on Friday April 24, said five of these candidates own properties worth over a crore of rupees each.

Independent candidate from DK constituency Tirumala Raya Halemane is in possession of assets worth Rs 3.99 crore, BSP candidate Girish Rai's assets are worth Rs 5.18 crore while  independent candidate Dr U P Shivanand's assets total up to Rs 1.96 crore, explained Prof Trilochan Shastry of the organization.

In Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency, BJP candidate D V Sadanand Gowda has assets worth Rs 1.43 crore while Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde has assets worth Rs 2.41 crore, he added.

Out of 11 candidates in the fray for Dakshina Kannada district, four are post-graduates; one is a professional graduate, while three others are graduates. All the three candidates fielded by political parties in Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency are graduates, he noted.

Shastry explained that National Election Watch has been working to bring about improvements in the Indian democratic practices and administration besides elections. The organization works with the help of over 1,200 voluntary organizations and citizens the country over, he added.
