Udupi, Apr 27:
“Invent with a vision and do things differently”, is what Saurabh Sangla, executive director of Signet Fincom, told students of the International Centre for Applied Sciences (ICAS) at the institute’s annual day and awards ceremony held at Hotel Valley View, Manipal, near here, on Friday April 24.

Sangla, who was the chief guest at the function, recalled how two years as a student of ICAS had changed him. He gave full credit to Manipal University for the success he had achieved in life and impressed upon the students that Bill Gates and Dhirubhai Ambani achieved what they did by keeping these two points in mind.

Sangla urged them to go out into the world with similar visions.

Presenting the annual report, G M J Bhat, director of ICAS, said that the institute established in 1994 is well-known in the engineering sector because of its twinning programme.

The students from the institute complete their first two years at Manipal, on an international curriculum, and the last two years at universities in the United States of America, United Kingdom, and Australia.

The director pointed out that the programme was gaining popularity as indicated by the rise of 30-40 percent in the number of students enrolling for admissions each year. Bhat added that for the year 2009–2010, 30 students had been and said that there had been a cent percent US student visa application approval for ICAS students.

“ICAS students are getting seats in some of the well-known universities like John Hopkins University for bio-medical engineering, and University of California, Berkeley for mechanical engineering. The list is endless with University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin, also on it and the most important fact is that many of the students are accepted with cent percent fee waiver”.

The function was presided over by Dr Rajen Padukone, president, student programmes of Manipal Universal Learning.

Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor, Manipal University, felicitated the students and urged them to uphold the name of Manipal University wherever they go.

A skit with a fusion of Ramayana and Mahabharata was held as part of the variety cultural entertainment programme.
