Mangalore, Apr 28: Deputy Inspector General of police Gopal B Hosur on Tuesday April 28 said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) will investigate naxal cases reported in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Chickmagalur districts.  

Addressing media persons at his office, he said “The anti-naxal force has arrested 35 people in connection with naxal activities. Five of them are directly involved in naxal activities, three are involved in the Matoli blast case near Sringeri, and two in Odeyar Math case”.  

Hosur said that special security arrangements have been made in 81 villages under 20 police stations limits in 8 taluks of the three districts which have been identified as naxal influenced areas. 

He added that skilled and trained police officials and personnel from various parts of the state have been deployed in the anti-naxal force.  

“Keeping the parliamentary elections in mind, 10-15 police personnel have been deployed in every police station. Special security will also be provided in 162 polling centres of the two Lok Sabha constituencies”, said Hosur.  

He said that 35 people who are considered informants of the force have also been provided special security. 

“The anti-naxal operation will continue with the same intensity even after the Lok Sabha election. The security force includes personnel from the Central Reserve Force, District Armed Force, and Central Industrial Force”, added Hosur.  

He said that they have received information that a fear psychosis has crept in amongst the  naxals following recent operations by the police. 

Superintendent of police Dr Subramanyeshwara Rao said that as many as 480 naxal supporters had been taken into custody and released as a preventive measure.
