Bengaluru: Coast, Malnad region get extensive rainfall

Bengaluru, Jul 27: Coastal areas and Malnad regions of Karnataka received good rainfall on the night of Thursday July 25 and Friday. Uttara Kannada district in particular received heavy rains and suffered heavy losses.

On Friday, an old building near the bus stand at Karwar crashed to the ground, resulting in total destruction of an auto rickshaw and a motor bike parked there. The building was dilapidated since several years, and luckily, no one was around the building and the auto rickshaw stand located by its side. A house in Navilgon in Honnavar fell to the ground, causing a loss of five lac rupees on the family. Life was thrown out gear in Ankola taluk too.

A teenager identified as Dileep (19) died after a wall crumbled due to heavy rain in the early hours of Friday July 26 at Gundlahalli in Toranagal, Sandur taluk. He was sleeping by the side of the wall. Tahsildar, Siddesh, visited the family and promise compensation of five lac rupees.

Rivers in Dakshina Kannada district are flowing to the brim. Malnad regions of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts also received good rainfall. The meteorological department has predicted rainfall in Balgalkot, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Chikkamagaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga and coastal districts on Saturday.
