Bantwal, Jul 31: A youth from Karopady, who had scaled a transformer for fixing edge fuse at Mittanadka in Karopady village, was electrocuted in a tragedy which happened on Tuesday July 29.

The deceased was Kurody Felex Monteiro (39) from Karopady village. He is survived by mother, two brothers, and two sisters.

Felix was working on contract basis for Mangalore electricity supply company Ltd (Mescom). He had himself disconnected power line before going up the transformer. He had reportedly switched off the high tension power line switch before undertaking repair work. It is said that one of the wires had failed to disconnect from the power line and Felix, who was unaware of it, tried to fix the edge fuse when electricity flowed through his body. He was tossed from above the transformer and fell down with a thud. He breathed his last before he could be taken to hospital, the locals stated.

In spite of being a contract worker, Felix Monteiro used to attend to electric supply related work of the villagers promptly. He was well appreciated by the people, and at the last Gram Sabha, urged Mescom to appoint Felix as a regular employee. A resolution was passed in this respect and copy thereof was sent to Mescom.

Karopady gram panchayat president, Baby R Shetty, has grieved his untimely death and prayed to the Lord to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.
