Mangaluru: Chafra's 'Ankvar Mestri' to be staged at 212th monthly theatre on Aug 4

Mangaluru, Aug 3: Astitva (R) will present Amar Chafra's 'Ankvar Mestri' play at the 212th monthly theatre of Mandd Sobhann. The play will be presented on Sunday August 4 at 6.30 pm at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar.

Chafra: Co-founder of Mandd Sobhann, a renowned Konkani poet, playwright and prestigious Sahitya Akademy awardee (for his poetry collection ‘Sonshyache Kan’), Charles Francis D’Costa is undoubtedly the most brightly shining star in Konkani literature. Eric Ozario has composed tunes for many of his poems which have etched a special place in Konkani music as Mandd Sobhann albums.

Monthly theatre: Commencing from January 6, 2002 to this day, Mandd Sobhann has successively organized 212 monthly theatre programmes on the first Sunday of every month. They are a much needed platform for Konkani’s rich and diverse talents.



Denis Monteiro: The director of this play, Denis Monteiro, worked with Chafra in theatre since 1982. He exhibited his talent of stage setting and costume design through Chafra's play - Shirigunddi Shimanv. He has also acted in Chafra's Dakter Dusman, Vishentiche Bhav, Tomato, Handdo Uttla, Sunnem Mazo'r Hasta. Bhangar Mo'nis
has been presented at the All India Cultural Fest - Po'ro'b - organised by Mandd Sobhann in 1992 and also in Dubai and other places. His plays have won prizes at Rangbhumi Udupi and Konkani Natak Sabha competitions.

Astitva: Astitva team has made its mark in Mangalurean theatre in a short span of time. This is the ninth show of this play, by this team. The winner of Kalakar Puraskar 2015 - Christopher D'Souza Neenasam, Clanwin Fernandes, Zeena Braggs, Rohan Adkabare, Ashel D'Silva and Anston Machado will act in this play. Lester Menezes will handle music, while Jackson D'Cunha will manage lighting.

The programme will commence on time. All are invited. Entry is free.
