Mangaluru: International Youth and Friendship Day celebrated at Valencia church

Mangaluru, Aug 5: The world celebrates International Friendship day and International Youth day in the month of August. Hence, celebrations were held in Valencia church on August 3.

Mass was celebrated at 5pm. Parish priest Fr James D’Souza celebrated the Mass. Liturgy and Choir was well managed by ICYM members. After the Eucharistic celebration a get together was held in the church conference hall.

The programme began with a prayer song led by the ICYM members. Assistant parish priest Fr Joswin D’Souza welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person Fr Ashwin Cardoza, designated director of ICYM, Mangaluru diocese. He was welcomed by parish priest Fr James D’Souza with a bouquet. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. Fr James delivered the presidential address.



Fr Ashwin Cardoza beautifully conducted icebreaking session and spoke on friendship. He advised the youth to speak and converse with people rather than wasting time on the cell phone. He also spoke about the addiction of youth towards social media.

Parish council vice president Anil lobo, secretary Lizzie Pinto, YCS animator Leslie D’Souza were also present. Youth Welfare and Cultural committee secretary Sandra Lobo rendered the vote of thanks.

Patrick D’Souza compered the programme. The function ended with a dinner and baila. Around 110 youth actively participated in the programme.
