Chitradurga, Sep 13: Govind Karajol, who has recently assumed the position of one of the deputy chief ministers (DCM) of the state, has given a controversial statement saying that more and more accidents are caused as the roads are good.

Govind was speaking to reporters at Chitrahalli of Holalkere taluk of the district. He further said, "It has come to my notice that many states in the country, including Gujarat have reduced the traffic violation fines. The Karnataka government will take a decision on this after deliberating on the matter in the cabinet meeting."

Denying the argument that the traffic fines should be increased only after providing fundamental infrastructure including repairing of roads, the DCM said, "I do not agree with the argument that the amount of traffic fines need to be increased only after providing good roads to the commuters. The number of accidents have increased only because of the good quality of the roads. Vehicles are plying at a very high speed on the highways. As most of the vehicles are driven at speeds higher than 160 km per hour, accidents are happening."

Govind Karajol clarified that personally he does not support the increase of traffic violation fines.

The statement of good roads cause accidents by the DCM has become a highly discussed issue now in the state.
