Dubai, Sep 2: The marine water has turned 'red patches' nearly eight to 12 miles off the Ras Al Khaimah's coast. "The red tide phenomenon appears twice a year, and has no negative impact on the marine environment," said the Environmental Protection Authority.

However, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has warned against swimming, fishing, or collecting dead fish in affected areas during the red tide, known as algae blooms.

General of the Environment protection and Development Authority, Dr Saif Al Ghais RAK said it is nothing but algae blooms that appear and reproduce at the same time every year, changing the colour of the water. “It does not have any negative impact on marine life and does not disrupt the work of water desalination plants,” he said as reported in Khaleej Times.
