Udupi, Oct 31: “Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel united the country,” said state BJP president and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Run for Unity’ held to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Hejmady here on Thursday, October 31.

“India was in slavery for 10,000 years. The opponents took advantage of our internal differences during the rule of kings and made us slaves. India became independent after struggle. The credit for making India one during those days goes to Sardar Patel. Therefore, he is called iron man. He stood in front of Somnath temple, fought, made the country one and drove away the symbol of slavery. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proclaimed the unity of the country and remembered Sardar Patel on his birth anniversary,” he said.

Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Karkal MLA Sunil Kumar, MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, zilla panchayat president Dinaker Babu, member Shilpa G Suvarna, BJP district president Mattar Rathnaker Hegde, Prakash Shetty Padebettu, Hejmady panchayat president Vishalakshi Putran and others were present.
