Udupi, Dec 12: Mass India NGO Mahiti Seva Samithi (All India), Anti-Corruption Wing conducted a press meet at Press Club, Udupi on December 12 to highlight the reason for decline in economic conditions of the nation and the people responsible for the decline.

G A Koteyar, president, Mass India NGO Karnataka and member of National Advisory Committee addressed the media and said, “Today India’s GDP has gone down to 4.5%. India got freedom from British 72 years ago. But the economic conditions of the country never grew over the years. Political parties play a blame game on each other and are passing days.

“The present GDP is worse than ever. India has witnessed many prominent Prime ministers for the last 72 years. But the GDP had never depleted to such a low level. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done some appreciable works for the development of the country which was never done by any other prime ministers till date. Withdrawing Article 370 from Kashmir and integrating Kashmir as other states was a gut move as well as appreciable work.

“But, when it comes to GDP, the prime minister has failed completely to solve the problems. Economic condition of people is too bad. Unemployment is rapidly increasing. People in private companies are losing jobs. Prices of essential commodities are increasing every day. Agricultural activities are also decreasing. But corruption in the country has increased in exponential form. It is not the prime minister who is to be blamed. But the elected MLAs and MPs are to be blamed for this situation. They have hardly raised their voice against these issues in the houses of parliament.”

Veena Deepak, member of Mass India, Udupi said, “Today youths are not getting employed and struggling to get a job. On the other end, politicians are receiving lump sum amount as pension. Politicians join politics to serve the people. It is more like a NGO job and more than that after their term they become former ministers or MLAs. But still they receive pension. Instead of wasting the money as pension for former ministers, the amount could be used for some other purpose and at least the economic condition can be better than the present situation.

“A politician can claim three pensions if he or she is elected from the ground level i.e. first as Corporator or councilor, then as MLA and later as MP. There is a solution behind every problem. It is the right time for Modi government to eliminate this pension scheme from the former politicians and concentrate and develop the economic condition of the country.”

Rajesh Pereira, president of Mass India Brahmavar and Jaya Poojary, president of Mass India Laxminagara, were present in the press meet.
