Mangaluru: NHAI promotes Road Safety Week

Mangaluru, Jan 15: Road Safety Week is celebrated every year by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to create awareness of road safety amongst users and the public. Accordingly, it has been decided to celebrate the 31st Road Safety Week – 2020 from January 11 to January 17. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI stipulated certain activities to be carried out during the road safety week. The theme for the 31st Road Safety Week is 'Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha'.

Under NHAI, PIU-Mangaluru, the various activities are carried out during Road Safety Week. As part of Road Safety Activity, free health check-up/eye check up camps have been organized at various places for the general public, drivers and road users. Display of flex banners, posters at entry and exit of the building, parking blocks, toll plazas and road junctions have been carried out.

On January 14, NHAI PIU Mangaluru organized a programme to create awareness of Road Safety to the children and the general public. Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel presided over the function and Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru South and Dr Bharat Shetty, MLA Mangaluru north were the guests at the programme. Some of the corporators of Mangalore City Corporation were also present during the programme as well as several students from Padua School and Bharati School.

Shishu Mohan, project director of NHAI Mangaluru welcomed the MP, MLAs and other dignitaries to the function and addressed the gathering about Road Safety Week and the importance of road safety.

Nalin Kumar Kateel addressed the gathering and suggested various precautionary measures to be adopted for safety on road like wearing helmets on two-wheelers, seat belts on four-wheelers and to follow the traffic rules.

Dr Bharat Shetty and Vedavyas Kamath also addressed and gave valuable suggestions for road safety. All the children and the public took oath to strictly follow safety rules.

K Ramesh Babu, manager (Tech) of NHAI Mangalur concluded the programme with the vote of thanks to all.
