Bantwal, Jan 16: Thieves who entered a house near the village pond at Sangabettu in the taluk succeeded in taking away valuables and cash worth Rs 4.65 lac. The theft came to light on Wednesday January 15 morning.

The owner of the said house, Nazeer Ahmed, has a provision store at Kalasa and he visits his home once a week. He had sought the presence of all his family members at Kalasa from January 14 to 17 on account of Lord Chennakeshave temple car festival there. The family members had gone there on January 14 evening.

On Wednesday morning, his brother Basheer, called Nazeer to inform that the door of the house was open and expressed suspicion about theft. At about 1 pm on Wednesday, the family members came and found that their house had indeed been burgled.

The thieves had come in by shattering the front door lock. They broke open doors of almirhas and took away 12.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lac, cash amounting to two lac rupees, and a watch worth Rs 15,000, Nazeer stated in the complaint. The rural police have registered a case of theft.

Bantwal police circle inspector T D Nagaraj, rural sub-inspector Prasanna M S, assistant sub-inspector Kallemar and other staff visited the spot and undertook probe.
