Kasargod: Police arrest man, seize 18 kg ganja

Kasargod, Jan 17: The town police here have succeeded in arresting a person identified as Allwyn alias Fayed Ameen (19), resident of Kochi Idapuzha Janjarmpuzha Takadapu Junction Minchira. As much as 18 kgs of ganja found in his possession, a pick-up van used to transport ganja, and a motor bike that was escorting the van, were seized.

Police circle inspector of the town police station, Abdul Rahim, and sub-inspector Sheikh Abdul Sadiq, led a team that was conducting routine checks of vehicles near the panchayat office at Uliyathadka when the said van came from the direction of Karandakkad. Even though the police signalled the van to stop, the vehicle sped away. Two motor bikes which were functioning as escort vehicles, also escaped.

The police grew suspicious and chased the van. They took the van into possession at Mayippady and arrested a person named Allwyn, who was inside the van, with help from locals. The police who conducted detailed checks, found ganja inside the van. One of the bikes which were used as escort vehicles had been abandoned by the riders who escaped. Those who ran away have been identified as Manu from Ernakulam and Abdul Latif from Adka in Bandyod. The police are now searching for them.
