Kaup: Speeding car kills pedestrian waiting by roadside

Kaup, Jan 20: A woman waiting to cross the national highway near Mandara Hotel here died on Saturday January 18 night after a speeding car knocked her down.

The deceased wss Mumtaz (70), residing behind Millat school in Basha Nagar, Davanagere. The car driver moved ahead without stopping after the accident.

At around 11.15 pm on Saturday, Mumutaz along with her grandson, Afridula, and his mother, had crossed the service road and reached the national highway. They were waiting on the western side of the road to cross the highway when a car which was moving towards Udupi from the direction of Mangaluru hit her hard as the car was being recklessly driven. The car went away without bothering to stop.

The women, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to the district hospital at Udupi in the ambulance. The doctors who checked her said she had already passed away.
