Mangaluru, Feb 14: Former MP Ugrappa said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi should behave like a statesman, but is behaving like a petty politician.”

Addressing media here on Friday February 14, Ugrappa said, “Indian politics in under critical condition. Modi is looking like modern ‘Basmasura’. Instead of showing statesmanship, he is behaving like a petty politician. Before coming to the power he had promised many things, such as bringing back black money, crediting Rs 15 lac to bank accounts, curbing fake currency notes, tackling corruption, but none was delivered. If it is about providing money to the poor, it was possible through B Janardhana Poojary's loan mela.

“Today economy has reached downwards as our GDP is 3.5, employment is not generated, steel company, cement, and automobile are under loss. Public undertaking institution or companies like Air India, BSNL, LIC, and Bharath Petroleum are being sold. Economy has been completely destroyed. Modi promised to give 2 crore jobs, but we are losing jobs and there is rise in poverty.

"BJP is diverting minds of the people through emotional issues such as abrogation of Article 370, triple talaq, Ram Mandir, and Citizen Amendment Act. They are even alleging that Congress has connection with Pakistan. Let us not forget it was Modi who welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister on a red carpet. Modi was the one to visit Pakistan to consume Biryani. It was only Indira Gandhi who gave a fitting reply to Pakistan in the year 1971.

“We will support Modi if he desires to destroy Pakistan. We are very clear that Pakistan is our enemy and they are against our nation. CAA is unconstitutional which was not been discussed during my MP tenure,” he said.

Regarding Supreme Court’s verdict over reservation, Ugrappa said, "The government has the power to protect the fundamental rights of citizens. The judgement of the Supreme Court depends on how it is defended. As per Supreme Court, reservation is not the fundamental right of citizens. If BJP supports social justice, then why are PM Modi and national BJP president silent on the issue? We demand them to speak on the verdict, call meeting of all-party presidents, floor leaders and file review petition.”

“I was expecting state chief minister Yediyurappa and state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel to apologize people regarding high court’s orders that implementation of section 144 in city was illegal. If they respect the Constitution, then they should apologize to the people of the state,” he said.

“BJP are misusing police. We demand judicial enquiry into the case,” said Ugrappa regarding the accident case in Ballari in which minister Ashok’s son is linked.

MLA U T Khader, Congress leaders Sadashiva Ullal, Mohammed Monu, Santhosh Shetty, T K Sudhir and others were present.
