Global consulting firms lead IIM-B campus hiring


Bengaluru, Feb 15 (IANS): Global consulting firms lead campus recruitment in premier business school Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B), the school said on Friday.

"Prominent domestic and international recruiters participated in the final placements which resulted in premium jobs for the students. There was a 6.14 per cent increase in the total number of jobs offered compared to the previous year," said IIM-B career development services chair U. Dinesh Kumar in a statement.

Accenture lead consulting job offers of 147 with 26 absorptions, followed by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) (23), Bain & Company (20), Kearny (15), McKinsey & Co (14), GEP Consulting (7) and others.

In the technology consulting domain, PriceWaterHouseCoopers made 12 placement offers among a total of 27 recruitment.

From the IT sector, Microsoft IDC lead recruitment with 10 offers, out of a total of 38, also featuring TCS, Flipkart, Amazon, Paytm and others.

As many as 42 students bagged jobs in the finance stream. Goldman Sachs made the highest of eight offers, followed by JP Morgan with five, Avendus Capital with five and others such as Wells Fargo, Landmark, Prime Ventures and Motilal Oswal Group.

Among conglomerates recruiting for their leadership tracks, Aditya Birla Group dominated with eight offers, followed by Adani Group with seven, Vedanta with six, Capgemini with five, Tata Administrative Services with four and others.

Management students with sales and marketing elective bagged 55 offers in total, lead by Heineken beer-maker Anheuser-Busch InBev with 10 jobs, FIIT JEE-EdFora with five, Procter & Gamble with and others.

From the operations stream, 17 students bagged jobs in Accenture Operations, Hindustan Coca Cola, Gilbarco, Moonfrong and others.

"IIM-B has seen an increase in domestic and international offers across sectors such as consulting, finance, general management, product management, e-commerce, operations, analytics and marketing despite market conditions," said placement representative Anushree Jibhakate.

Among all the job roles, strategy consulting and product management continue to be the most sought after, followed by finance and general management.

According to the state-funded institute, all 428 students bagged 518 jobs in the lateral and final placements from the 2018-20 post graduate programme (PGP) or MBA batch over three days of interviews.

Meanwhile, a source from IIM-B told IANS that students from other fulltime residential courses, different from the flagship two-year MBA or PGP, did not get fully placed.

"Twelve students from executive post graduate programme (EPGP) and seven out of nine from the post graduate programme in public policy and management (PGPPM) course did not get jobs yet," said the source.
