Udupi, Feb 19: A person, who was getting a new house constructed for himself, fell into a pit dug for installing pillars. He died in the incident. This incident happened on Monday February 17 at Kunjigudi, Karkada in the taluk. The victim has been identified as Thimmappa Poojary (43), a local.

Four feet-deep pits had been dug for installing pillars for the new house, and beds had been laid at the bottom. Thimmappa had visited the spot on Monday afternoon to soak the concrete bed to strengthen it. When watering the beds, he slipped and fell into one of the pits. In this incident, the rear side of his head, which banged against the bed, suffered grave injuries.

As the spot is a little distance away from his old house, the incident did not come to the notice of the family members for some time. At round 4 pm, some locals noticed his condition and took him to a private hospital at Brahmavar.

The deceased was running a provision store, and has left behind wife, a son and a daughter.
