Melbourne Forum grieves for victims of Delhi violence


Thiruvananthapuram, March 1 (IANS): Hundreds of members belonging to the Melbourne based Melbourne Secular Forum on Sunday condemned the northeast Delhi violence which claimed more than 40 lives, left over 200 injured, caused huge loss to the properties, at a function held at the Melbourne Federation Square, said its member.

Speaking to IANS over telephone from Melbourne, chief coordinator of the Forum, Thiruvallam Bhasi said the turnout was very impressive.

"We have decided to approach the Australian government to see that they intervene to see the life and properties of the relatives of the Forum members are protected, back in Delhi," said Bhasi.

The Forum is currently finishing a signature campaign across Australia against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

"Once we collect the entire set of signatures, it will be send to the President of India and a copy of it will be given to the Indian Embassy in Melbourne," said Bhasi, a journalist based in Melbourne, who hails from the state capital here.
